Aspen Camp Read Details Snowmass, CO

The mission of the Aspen Camp of the Deaf is to provide an enriching educational and recreational experience for deaf and hard of hearing individuals. Additionally, ACD aspires to increase public awareness and involvement in the deaf community. RGSA has proposed a master plan that provides immediate solutions that adapt current buildings and project longer term design strategies for the camp's future expansion. To date, RGSA has remodeled the staff bunkhouse, and has proposed solutions for modernizing the kitchen and dining facilities, reworking the office and administrative spaces, and the design of a new cabin for the campers' year round use. RGSA has proposed shifting the program in existing buildings to optimize space usage. The main building currently houses the offices, dining area, kitchen, camp store and camp infirmary. The new design proposes relocating the office, store, and infirmary to the annex building and expanding the kitchen and dining facilities to better accomodate the growing camp population. The camp recently received a large donation of commercial kitchen equipment which is being utilized in the design of the new kitchen facilities. RGSA's goal for the camp's master plan is to provide a strategy that responds to the camp's current need, future demand, and is mindful of expense. The plan projects different stages of improvements to help the camp offset cost over a longer period of time.
